SWEDISH MEAT BALLS

       Here is an easy main dinner item that is easy to cook.   Try it some time.

 

    1/2 cup chopped onions

    3-4 bay leaves

    1 ¾ tablespoons lemon juice

    5 tablespoons flour

    3 ¼ cups water

    3 beef bouillon cubes

    ¾ cup milk

    ½ teaspoon nutmeg

    ¼ teaspoon pepper (some people will leave out)

    1 tablespoon salt

    ¼ cup melted shortening

    2 beaten eggs

    1 ¾ cups dry bread crumbs

    1 pound ground beef 

    ¾ pound ground pork

 

       Saute the onions and shortening until tender.

 

       Combine the above beef, pork, bread crumbs, beaten eggs, salt, sugar, pepper, nutmeg and milk and shape into 1 to 1 ½” balls and then brown them in melted fat in a hot pan.

 

       Take the meat balls from the pan..   Blend the bouillon cubes into the water.   Then blend the flour into the fat in the pan and then add the bouillon water and the lemon juice.

 

       After stirring it until it becomes thick add the bay leaves and the browned meat balls.

 

       Cook under low hear for 1 hours.

 

       Every person will like it.
