Most people have had creamed peas. This recipe will work for carrots also.
2 tablespoons chopped onion
3 tablespoons butter.
¾ cup milk.
1 tablespoon flour.
1 teaspoon sugar.
¼ teaspoon salt.
dash pepper.
dash of nutmeg.
pinch of dried leaf thyme.
1 pkg frozen peas (or carrots)
In melting butter add onion and cook for 5 minutes stirring gently. Sprinkle in the flour, thyme, salt, pepper, sugar & nutmeg
Stir to blend and remove from heat and then add all the milk all at once.
Stir and return to moderate heat,. Cook until thickened, smooth, and boiling by stirring constantly Cook for 10 minutes, stirring gently.
Cook the peas or carrots in boiling water until tender. Then stir into the hot sauce.
Serve hot. If you cannot use now, heat before serving..
