| The agreement signed at Cotonou was signed in June 2000 by 79 countries and the fifteen member states of the European Union and was to last for 20 years. |

| The countries that are in the agreement, agree to help each countries in their level of development, performance, needs, performance and long term development strategy. The developed countries are to help the least developed countries. |

| One of the main items under this agreement is for reciprocal trade agreements between the EU and the other countries under this agreement. They agreed that this does not cover any arms item or equipment. |
