At any Thanksgiving or New Year dinner you will see a dish called candied sweet potatoes. This dinner is easy to make and most people like them, even if you do not like sweet potatoes.
1 large or 2 med cans sweet potatoes or yams or 12 medium ones
2 cups brown sugar
6 to 8 tablespoon butter
1 bag marshmallows.
Sweet potatoes and yams are the same. Yams will be a little lighter in color but you can use both and they taste the same.
Cook the sweet potatoes (yams) in water until they begin to soft if you are not using cans. Most people will use the cans.
Take out the yams and dry them off. Peel and cut up to chunks about 1 inch.
Preheat the oven to from 350-375 degrees
Take a pan and grease the inside and place the chunks in a layer at the bottom of the pan. Take ¾ cup of water and sugar and bring to a boil. When it come to a boil stir in the butter and when it melts cover the chunks of sweet potatoes with it.
Bake uncovered for ½ hours and then add a layer of marshmallows over it.
Bake until the marshmallows melt over it. This should take less then ¼ hours.
It taste better if hot. If you need to cook before hand you can reheat when needed.
Every one will like them.
Good luck.
