AUSTRALIA, NEW ZEALAND, and U. S. SECURITY TREADY

by Ted Peterson
.
When Australia, and New Zealand was turned down from joining NATO in 1951 the U.S. signed another treaty with both. We also added, but did not list Philippines as we have a commitment to take care of their security. This treaty went into effect on Apri 29, 1952. The name stand for A: for Australia, NZ: for New Zealand and US: for United States.
.
This treaty was set up with the idea that a attack on one would be a attack on all. The U.S. added Philippines to the group but they were not listed on the treaty.
The members met each year to see what had to be done. In 1985 a new election took place in New Zeland and the new government passed a law that no ship or plane could come or land in New Zeland that was nuclear armed or was nuclear armed. They then turned down a US navy ships from comming into of of their port.
.
By doing this they were then droping out of the treaty. They wanted to stay in but with that rule.
.
We said ok. We now had 2 treaty. One with Australia and another one with New Zealand. The U.S. is working with both. Both helped us in `the different wars that we have had in the last few years. They both have sent troops and equipment.
